It's Cold and Flu Season!

How do we make sure that our classroom environment is safe and healthy?

A few times a year we remind both our volunteers and our parents of our wellness policy.

Here’s what we tell our volunteers:
Children who show signs of illness should not be allowed into the classroom. When addressing this issue with parents, assure them that we want their child in The Zone and as soon as they are feeling better they may return.

If you continually have a problem with a sick child, enlist the help from a staff member. If an illness is discovered after a child is in the classroom, remove the child from the other children and ask the staff to locate their parents.

Here’s what we tell our parents:
It’s that time of year when colds and the flu can easily be passed. We want to provide a safe and healthy environment. Please know that we require that a child be fever-free for 24 hours before entering The Zone. We also ask that you adhere to the following wellness policy.

If in doubt, please apply the golden rule. It’s important to us that we protect the health of all of the children in our environment.

Here’s our wellness policy:
Upon recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, we ask that a child is not brought to The Zone when the following conditions exist:
• Fever (We require a child to be free of fever for 24 hours before entering a classroom.)
• Vomiting or diarrhea (within the past 24 hours)
• Symptoms of childhood diseases such as chicken pox, croup, strep throat, flu, etc.
• Any unexplained rash
• Pink eye or other eye infections
• Cloudy or green runny noses or persistent cough

Please remember to use LOTS of hand sanitizer and hand washing while working with the kids. Have the kids do the same. After each service all toys need to be wiped down with an antibacterial wipe.

If you are sick - please call or text me ASAP so I can cover your class 510-366-9854.

Praying for Health,

Nicole Olsen
